WSA Atton’s Lake

WSA Atton’s Lake was constructed in 1964 near Atton’s Lake Regional Park to observe natural groundwater level fluctuations in a surficial aquifer in west central Saskatchewan.  The total depth of the well is 16.15 metres and it is located in a broad, depressional area approximately five kilometers north of the Eagle Hills Escarpment. This depressional area is occupied by Atton’s Lake as well as other lakes and the Battle River.  It is believed that the surficial aquifer in which the well is located is hydraulically connected to Atton’s Lake. Water infiltrating into the area moves downward and discharges laterally into the Battle River.

The hydrograph for WSA Atton’s Lake shows a long term decline starting in 1975 and continuing to 2005 with only a minor interuption from 1984 to 1987.  The total decline over this period was over two metres.  Water level have been recovering since 2005, and in 2017 surpassed the historical peak levels measured in the early to mid-70’s.
