WSA Davis Creek 1A and 1B

Observation wells at Davis Creek were completed in November 2020. Four observation wells were installed to investigate the surface and groundwater interaction along the creek to assess baseflow contribution to surface waters. Natural groundwater discharge to the creek has a major influence on the Mountain Sucker habitat. The wells are spaced out laterally and vertically to allow for determination of regional and local gradients near the creek.

Both Davis 1A and 1B both appear to have a similarity in response to water level fluctuations as Davis Creek, which suggests a hydraulic connection to Davis Creek.

Davis 1A

Davis 1A and 1B were constructed in proximity to Davis Creek and completed into the coarse sediments of the Eastend Formation. Observation well WSA Davis 1A was completed to a depth of 16.76 metres into silt, and silty clay. The thickness of the silt/clay layer is approximately 4.5 metres. WSA Davis 1B was completed to a depth of 6.71 metres into fine sand with a thickness of approximately 6 metres.

The hydrographs for Davis 1A ranged from approximately 1101.8 metres above sea level to 1102.7 metres above sea level. Maximum water levels in Davis 1A were reached in early 2022 at 1102.7 metres above sea level, while the minimum water levels for Davis 1A were encountered in mid-2021 at 1101.8 metres above sea level.

Water quality in Davis 1A is of the sodium-bicarbonate type with a sum of ions concentration of 537 mg/L.

Davis Creek 1B

WSA Davis 1B was constructed near Davis Creek and completed into the coarse sediments of the Eastend formation. It was completed at a depth of 6.71 metres below ground surface into fine sand with a thickness of approximately 6 metres.

The hydrograph for Davis 1B shows that groundwater levels generally ranged between 1101.7 and 1102.7 metres above sea level. The maximum water levels in Davis 1B were encountered in early 2022 at 1102.7 metres above sea level, while minimum water levels were observed in mid-2021 at 1101.7 metres above sea level.

Water quality in Davis 1B is of the sodium-bicarbonate type with a sum of ions concentration of 467 mg/L.
