WSA Infrastructure Crossing Replacement Program

The Water Security Agency (WSA) is investing $500,000 to assist rural municipalities (RMs) and irrigation districts with upgrading infrastructure across WSA-owned conveyance channels. RMs and irrigation districts are eligible for 50/50 cost sharing based on a first come, first served basis.

“When we first introduced this as a pilot program in 2023, we heard from many RMs and irrigation districts who faced cost pressures to replace aging rural infrastructure at these crossings” Minister Responsible for the Water Security Agency Dave Marit said. “This program helps ease that financial burden and ensures our conveyance channels are constructed and maintained to continue to meet the needs of the public.”

To be eligible, bridges or culverts must cross WSA channels or other conveyance while maintaining current flow rates.

“We appreciate the province’s commitment to continue supporting our rural municipalities with these vital projects,” said Ray Orb, President of the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities. “This partnership is attracting more interest from RMs wanting to upgrade their infrastructure, and ensuring water continues to move safely and effectively in rural Saskatchewan.”

There is no deadline to apply to the program. Only costs incurred from April 1, 2023, through March 31, 2025, will be considered.
